Here is a plea for play — an appeal for you to tap your funny bone — not just on weekends or during vacations, but during your teaching day, when you have the most influence and power. With the suggestions of Diana Loomans and Karen Kolberg, at least 45 days out of the year will contain laughter and learning instead of yawns and snores from your students.
The Laughing Classroom contains methods for creating a learning environment filled with trust, creativity, spontaneity, wonder, and joy. Set up as exercises that can be read verbatim from the book, each of the classroom suggestions contains not only clear directions for a fun learning experience but alternatives for using each exercise in a different way. The activities include silly songs sung to favorite tunes, vocabulary building, special dress day, writing, social skills, observation, science, communication, creativity, and self-expression.
The goal of the book is to help move teachers from a “limiting” teaching style to a “laughing” style that inspires creativity as well as helps students learn faster and better. The book will help teachers (and parents) make learning fun while instilling self-esteem, sold work habits,and the joy of learning in children.
