The I Ching for Writers PR

NEW BOOK RECASTS ANCIENT PREDICTIONS INTO CONTEMPORARY IDEAS FOR TODAY’S WRITER
Sarah Jane Sloane
P.R. Contact: Monique Muhlenkamp

(Novato, CA) New World Library announces the March publication of a new book entitled The I Ching for Writers: Finding the Page Inside You. For the first time, this book brings the ancient oracle system of the I Ching to stymied writers everywhere. Whether you are an experienced writer or a novice, you will find creative suggestions and advice to successfully break through writer’s block.

Creative writing professor Sarah Jane Sloane jump starts the creative process with nearly 512 writing activities, exercises, and suggestions, each one connected to one of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Each hexagram’s interpretation is the author’s own, derived from years of study, as well as from comparisons of over fifty translations of the I Ching.

In addition to this oracular system of advice, Sloane presents a clear introduction to the philosophy of the I Ching. She also includes inspirational quotations, writing prompts, solutions to common writing problems, and a wonderful exploration of the creative process developed from her expertise as a teacher of creative writing. Sloane also outlines the five stages of the writing process—brainstorming, planning, generating a first draft, revising the draft, and polishing—and provides serious writers with 75 exercises to help with these stages.

Sarah Jane Sloane is a working writer and associate professor of English at Colorado State University. She lectures frequently on topics ranging from how to get started as a writer to the element of chance in writing. Her poetry has been published in numerous journals and her book reviews and creative nonfiction has appeared in Tricycle and Parabola. She is the author of Digital Fictions (Greenwood, 2000), a consideration of how computers are changing literacy and the literary practices of reading and writing fiction. She has studied at Oxford and the University of Edinburgh and holds a BA from Middlebury College, an MFA from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an MA from Carnegie Mellon University, and a PhD from Ohio State University.
