Dr. Bernie Siegel
Dr. Bernie Siegel was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College where he graduated with honors. In 1989 he retired from the practice of general and pediatric surgery to travel around the world, speaking to patients and their caregivers.
In the late seventies, he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our society grapples with today.
His first book, Love, Medicine & Miracles, was published in 1986. This multi-million best-selling book was an event that redirected his life. Then in 1989 Peace, Love & Healing was published, followed by How to Live between Office Visits in 1993 and Prescriptions for Living in 1999. Bernie's understanding that we need help dealing with all the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to the writing of his new book, 365 Prescriptions for the Soul.
In 2003, he released a new book, Help Me To Heal, and we will see the debut of Bernie's first children's book, Smudge Bunny, published by New World Library/HJ Kramer, Spring, 2004.
Dr. Siegel lives with his wife and their dog, Furphy, and bunny, Smudge, in Connecticut. They have five grown children and several wonderful grandchildren.
