YOU KNOW THAT THING YOU’VE BEEN MEANING TO DO? by guest blogger Sam Bennett, author of Get It Done
By Samy AbulEla

You know that thing you’ve been meaning to do? You remember — that one project that is such a good idea . . . and yet . . . you just can’t seem to get moving on it?

You know you want to do it.
You know you need to do it.
You know you would really love having it done.

So what’s the holdup? Why aren’t you moving forward on the projects that matter most to you?

In my work with hundreds of creative people, I have found there are a few common thought patterns that keep people stuck, and often the solution is just a quick mental game away.

GETTING UNBLOCKED FROM WRITER’S BLOCK by guest blogger Denise Jaden, author of Fast Fiction
By Samy AbulEla

Most writers have probably felt as though they’ve been “blocked” or stuck for words at one time or another, so if this is something you struggle with, you’re not alone. However, I believe that writer’s block can be solved quite easily by trying these simple practices:

1. Change your perspective. Writer’s block really isn’t about being unable to write. Have your hands and fingers seized up? Even if they have, you likely have a voice recorder on your phone that you could use. You see, writer’s block isn’t about your inability to write; it’s only about your anticipated inability to write well. Every writer has bad days when their writing isn’t great. This is normal, and it will not last forever, as long as you keep pressing on. Give yourself permission to write poorly for the next week, and I’ll bet you’ll be finding glimmers of greatness within your writing again in no time.

MATTHEW FOX’S COSMIC MASS by New World Library Office Manager Jennifer Listug
By Samy AbulEla

New World Library author Matthew Fox created the Cosmic Mass in 1996 as a way to “reinvent worship.” The event falls somewhere between an interfaith worship service and a rave, and in fact its purpose is to bring together elements of both, using ritual and dance to reawaken joy, transform grief, spark creativity, and support compassionate action. Sunday, December 1, 2013, marked the first Cosmic Mass in five years, and I volunteered to help, along with New World Library Assistant Editor Jonathan Wichmann and a team from all over the country.
