On the Road with New World Library

I love a good road trip — especially when it affords me a chance to spend a weekend connecting with book lovers (and spending time with my family after the show). My recent trip to staff the New World Library booth at the LA Times Festival of Books was, in a word, fabulous! What’s not to love about a beautiful weekend on the UCLA campus connecting directly with our readers?

Festivals like this offer a great opportunity for me to introduce new books, get feedback on our titles, converse with folks about how our books have changed their lives, and share our submission guidelines. Yes, that’s right. Sharing our guidelines gives me hope in a world that’s prophesizing the end of books and publishing. While industry changes are certainly afoot, I am here, along with the show’s 130,000 attendees, to say “Viva la book!”

Here’s a picture of our booth (which we share with the Book
Publishing Company out of Summertown, Tennessee). That’s the
beautiful Royce Hall in the background.

Here’s a picture of me with one of our show bestsellers — Guardians of Being
by Eckhart Tolle and Patrick McDonnell.

In case you’re curious, other bestsellers included Clutter Busting by Brooks Palmer, Less by Marc Lesser, Tibetan Buddhist Goddess Altars, and Hindu Altars. Hope to see you at the festival next year!
